My partner is from Penrith and over the years I too have grown to love Cumbria, especially the remote fells and upland moors. The nearest that we have been so far to Ravenstonedale is when we visited and walked in the Weasdale area a couple of years back. Ravenstonedale seems to be a lovely village; certainly your photos of St. Oswald's church are really lovely and it is indeed a 'must see' when we visit there. What I cannot seem to find out definitively from any of the maps that I have consulted, nor from the Internet, is whether Ravenstonedale (as the name suggests) is actually a valley as well as a village name. Can you answer this for me, and possibly suggest other sites and views that we shouldn't miss when we do some walks in the area (hopefully in Sept. 2011)? Thank you for the site, and hoping to hear from you when you have some time. Best wishes, Mike O'Dwyer.mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12925931673482869120noreply@blogger.com
