St Mary, Whicham

St Mary
Whicham
Nr Millom
Cumbria

This beautiful church can be found about five miles North West of Millom, on the A595 as it runs under the Southern heights of Black Combe. The setting is one of the most perfect spots for such a gem of a church, and I can't recommend a visit highly enough.....for both church and scenery.

This Grade II listed church probably has 12th century origins....indeed the doorway (hidden by the Southern porch) is 12th century (Norman)but typically I missed taking any photos of this on my visit. I'll have to return to photograph it.

A good view of the West end of the church, with the font below the three light window.

View of the pulpit.

View to the East end of the church, showing the chancel and the altar below the 17th century three light window. The church appears to be left open and there was plenty of parking near the church yard. As more information becomes available regarding this church, I'll post it here.
